Death
The Death card does not foretell physical death, so it does not mean that you or your loved one will pass away. Rather, the card speaks to death and endings being a natural part of life, and that it is time to let go of what you no longer need in order to create room for the new.
This card isn't anything to be afraid of. Death foreshadows a period of transition or significant change in your life. This transformation may occur in virtually any area of your life, but it will almost always be lasting, substantial, and complete. Expect a personal relationship, a project, or something else important to end – but don’t dwell too much on the negative sentiments this brings. Death does imply a total break between the past and the future, which may be challenging or upsetting for a time. However, the Death card also promises that ultimately you will gain peace, despite the feelings of loss you may experience over whatever is ending in your life. You'll find it easier to accept the changes if you embrace them rather than resist them.. This shift ushers in fresh beginnings and good development, and now it's time to move forward.
The Death card is surprisingly familiar to many people who are inexperienced with tarot. It appears often in popular culture, and it usually foreshadows some terrible tragedy for the hero or heroine of the day. The changes foretold by the Death card, however, are rarely so cinematic. Most endings come via mundane phone calls or are gradually anticipated. The Death card is seldom a forerunner of impending catastrophe, yet the endings it speaks of will leave their imprint in your psyche, nonetheless. Remember that the Death card represents not just an ending, but a new beginning.
A black, armoured rider on a white horse – a pale yellow skeleton - appears on Death's visage. He carries a big black flag with a white rose on it. A king lays crushed and dead at the horse's feet. Mourners surround him, including a church member (who is most likely praying for the dead/dying guy) and two young children, a boy and a girl. The young kid stares up at Death, both fascinated and terrified. Over her shoulder, the young girl, on the other hand, is gazing away. The sun is setting behind them, sending out its last rays... or is it the dawn? Who knows for certain?
Don't Fear the Changes Which Lie Ahead
The death card, in most cases, denotes an impending change. We get used to going through the same processes again and over in our daily lives. Any variety of responses are likely to occur when those movements are thrown into a spin by an abrupt parting of ways. This card indicates that something in your life will change, but it will be replaced with something fresh... and surprising. This can relate to your career, your home, your close relationships, your emotions, your projects, your ambitions, or almost anything else.
Yes, Death signifies an ending. This card represents the conclusion of a stage in your life. However, as we all know, life does not have just one stage. The infant becomes a woman, the maiden becomes a mother, and the mother becomes a crone. It's just the way things are. While you're waiting for this chapter to finish, remember to enjoy the new experiences that will come with it.
When you draw this card, consider the following questions. Is it possible for me to be flexible enough to let go of what is dying? Is it possible for me to be courageous enough to embrace the new without hesitation? What actions will I need to take in order to grieve appropriately for what has been lost?
What Death Means for You Today
The Death card may seem scary or frightening, but its message for you today is simply that major change is on the way. Something in your life is ending, but in its place something new and fresh is being seeded. Nonetheless, the end of a project, a friendship, a phase of life, a job or a relationship is bittersweet at best, even if the change is fundamentally a good one – so you can expect to feel some sadness today. It’s OK to be sentimental about what is being left behind but remember to live in the present and to keep your eyes on the future. Where one thing ends in your life, something beautiful can take its place.
